Goal: $20,000.00
Specific Need
Each year, college tuition and fees continue to increase. From 1989 to 2016, the cost to attend college increased eight times faster than wages. Fewer and fewer of our bright and talented high school graduates' families are able to afford a post-secondary education for their children. Little wonder we have a shortage of teachers, doctors, nurses, information technicians, engineers, social workers, clergy, psychologists, and the list goes on. For fifty-four years, the Meadville Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund has focused on providing scholarships for worthy economically disadvantaged students. We also support the Meadville Middle School Mentoring Program which promotes the success of our students by offering after-school and summer programs that open their eyes to the wonders of science, drama, literature, music, conservation and many other activities.
The specific need:
- To raise $20,000.00 for scholarships awarded to outstanding graduates of the Meadville Area Senior High School
- To deposit these funds into the Crawford Heritage Foundation to endow this perpetual scholarship fund
Mission
The mission of the Meadville Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund is to award scholarships each year to graduates of the Meadville Area Senior High School who are bright and talented, economically disadvantaged students who exhibit the principles of Dr. King in scholarship and character.
