Specific Need
Funding to support the reimbursement of participating deer processors who prepare donated venison for distribution to local food banks, soup kitchens and churches.
Mission
The mission of Hunters Sharing the Harvest is to coordinate the distribution of responsibly harvested venison from generous Pennsylvania hunters to the food insecure across the Commonwealth.
Profile
Hunters Sharing the Harvest (HSH) is Pennsylvania’s nationally emulated venison donation program. Since 1991, HSH has coordinated the delivery and distribution of more than 2 million pounds of hunter-donated venison to food banks, food pantries, soup kitchens and churches throughout the Commonwealth. That generosity has provided more than 20 million servings of lean, high-protein venison to the food insecure. Our mission is realized via a network of 100 participating deer processors and 60 volunteer county coordinators. Participating processors are reimbursed for their services, resulting in our largest annual budgetary expense.
During the 2021-22 hunting season, Pennsylvania hunters donated 187,426 pounds of venison from 4,691 deer statewide, providing approximately 2 million servings to the hungry Pennsylvanians.
In Crawford County, over 1,000 pounds of venison was donated last season, providing more than 5,000 servings of lean, high-protein venison for the hungry in our county. Your support of HSH will help us expand our mission in Crawford County, adding additional processors and increasing the volume of deer donated county-wide.
