Goal: $2,000.00
Specific Need
Since last year we have been able to be open Tuesdays and Saturdays now. We will continue to have history nights 2 x yearly. We now have a display case in the CS Pharmacy rotating our collection for the public to view. The display is changed every three months.
The physical needs of the museum include: ( and what we have accomplished since 2021).
1. The museum needs to update the electrical service with added outlets in the main display room. There are only two at this time. (not done). Cost would be $ 6oo
2. We continue to replace old torn window shades with new. There are 27 huge windows. The new shades cost $25 each. ( One room is finished). This was completed
3. We had to replace our old unfixable microfiche machine with a new computer version this past year. The cost was over $6,000. Half of this cost was defrayed through Janet Beanland's Memorial donations. This was done at a cost of $6500, we used all of our Crawford Gives donations 2021 $1674.41 for this). Updated computer and scanner was donated
4. The bulletin board in the main hall needs to be updated and replaced to make it user friendly. Campbell's Pottery donated bulletin board and it was replaced and installed for free. We used $50.00 of materials to update featuring the Hotels and Mineral Springs of C.S.
Because of your generous donations of 2019 and 2020, we were able to update wiring ( $600) and place an air conditioner in the main office and main display room. One air conditioner was donated to the museum. It has been a pleasure reseaching and reading microfiche in the office with the air conditioning. ( Thank You! ) The dedicated Staff has been busy researching and preparing our next presentation for the near future.
5. We find that we need to add archival sleeves, boxes, and binders to store and preserve our photos, postcards, maps, and records. Our collection keeps growing. We just received many boxes of documents from a retiring history teacher that need stored properly. $1000. We are in the process of organizing our postcard collection and putting them In binders
with archival sleeves. We have received a Grant of $688 from the PHMC for this purpose
6. Need to add a display for CS Boy Scouts materials we are receiving since they dissolved. $200.00. This is done
7. Need wooden glass display case to house Dr. Rhodes medical equipment. $150.00 This is not done
8.Need to replace 3 exterior wooden doors on the building for security. Cost will be $ 4000. The doors are being hand built at this time
Our goal is to raise $ 2000 with Crawford Gives with your funding support.
Mission
The Cambridge Springs Heritage Society was founded in 1976 with the museum opening in 1995. The museum has been providing the bridge from the past to the present by collecting and preserving records, photos, yearbooks, and artifacts for future generations. The main interest is preserving and sharing history both ancestral and historical relating to Cambridge Springs We provides genealogy research in support of family history. We offer historical educational resources to share and connect with the public. We support and get involved in local historical events and anniversaries relating to past businesses and people.
Profile
Since 2017 the historical society has provides a free presentation called History Nights about our Cambridge Springs two times a year. Each history nights has a new and different program about the town followed by homemake refreshments. The programs are well attended by the community. The audience is encouraged to actively participate to share any information that they know about the subject of the program. We all learn something new every program. We have started to video record these programs.
The museum houses a room dedicated to Alliance College with artifacts. We actively share infomation with the Alliance College Alumni and answer any inquiries.
In December 2004 the grave site of Job Van Court ( first recorded settler of CambridgeBoro ) was moved from a field to the Cambridge Lower Cemetery and a headstone placed by the Cambridge Springs Heritage Society. The grave is maintained by the museum staff.
Museum Tours are conducted yearly for the eighth grade students from Cambridge Springs High School. Private tours for groups can also be scheduled by calling the museum.
This last year we added a wooden glass display case in our local pharmacy featuring a rotating display from the museum's collecton for the public to view.
All these services are provided by a small group of dedicated volunteers.
